Although Ealing's conservation panels and some resident's groups (but not CARA or the Creffield Conservation area) were consulted about the lampposts; it did not matter - EDF and Ealing Council went ahead with their own specification.

Twyford Avenue is an unusual road being a local distributor road in a conservation area only designated as such after the PFI contract was signed.

When CARA challenged the council and EDF about the design of lampposts we were told that they had to comply with European Legislation;

We rang both the EC and our own Parliament and they both fell about laughing saying there was no such legislation and it was up to each country to decide on their own lamp posts. The European Government in Brussels was not interested
